How admission works in Punjab
UHS Lahore is the admitting university for Punjab's public and private medical and dental colleges, and UHS also conducts the MDCAT for Punjab. For 2025-26 the Punjab Cabinet approved the admission policy (notification SO(ME-II)2-1/2025 dated 22 Oct 2025). An applicant needs a Punjab domicile for open merit and reserved provincial categories and at least 60% in HSSC Pre-Medical (or IBCC equivalence). They also need 55% in MDCAT for MBBS or 50% for BDS. MDCAT 2023, 2024 or 2025 is accepted. Merit is calculated as SSC 10% + HSSC 40% + MDCAT 50%.
- 1Pass HSSC Pre-Medical with at least 60% marks, with Biology and Chemistry plus Physics or Mathematics (foreign qualifications need IBCC equivalence).
- 2Appear in MDCAT conducted by UHS Lahore (for 2025 the national test was on 5 Oct 2025, registration 8-25 Aug 2025). Score at least 55% for MBBS or 50% for BDS. MDCAT of 2023, 2024 or 2025 is accepted.
- 3Register once at public-mbbs.uhs.edu.pk or public-bds.uhs.edu.pk with your name, father's name, email, CNIC and a password. Multiple applications mean disqualification.
- 4Select the seat categories you want to compete for and enter your SSC, HSSC and MDCAT marks.
- 5Rank colleges in order of preference (open-merit MBBS allows 16 preferences for female and 15 for male applicants). Preferences stay editable until the deadline.
- 6Upload each required document as a separate file of at most 1 MB. The documents are the Punjab domicile certificate, board-attested SSC and HSSC certificates, MDCAT result and photograph.
- 7Pay the PKR 2,000 processing fee through the generated 1Bill invoice at Bank of Punjab or National Bank of Pakistan. Then submit before 21 Nov 2025, 17:00. The portal opened 7 Nov 2025, 09:00.
- 8Track the provisional merit list (26 Nov 2025 for MBBS, 26 Dec 2025 for BDS) and file any representation. Then check the final merit list (28 Nov 2025 MBBS, 29 Dec 2025 BDS). Also check the first selection list (1 Dec 2025 MBBS, 2 Jan 2026 BDS).
- 9Report and pay admission dues by the date in the list, then join classes. Classes began 2 Feb 2026 for MBBS and 2 Mar 2026 for BDS.
Quota system
Public-sector seats run on Open Merit plus reserved categories, all of which need a Punjab domicile. The reserved categories are Students with Disabilities, Under-Developed Districts, Cholistan and Overseas. Students with Disabilities need a government specialist certificate, then UHS Medical Board 22-24 Nov 2025. Under-Developed Districts cover D.G. Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Lodhran, Bhakkar, Layyah and Mianwali. They need schooling in the same district and a PKR 500,000 surety bond to serve the district for 5 years. Cholistan seats are tied to Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan, with a Cholistan Development Authority certificate. Overseas candidates need PMDC Notification PF-1-C-PMDC-Notification/2024/741 dated 21-03-2025 and self-finance at US$10,000 per year. Punjab-domiciled candidates also take reciprocal seats in Balochistan, KPK and AJK colleges on Punjab open merit. Seats reserved for ICT, AJK, GB, Ex-FATA and Balochistan (including HEC scholarship seats) are advertised separately. They are applied for on quota-mbbs.uhs.edu.pk or quota-bds.uhs.edu.pk from 1-15 Dec 2025. They are vetted by the respective provincial governments or HEC. In the private sector, candidates holding the domicile of any district of Pakistan may apply. Selected candidates deposit PKR 600,000 to a designated UHS account within three working days of the merit list.
