History

Records of the college disagree on its founding year. Our profile field states 2012, while the history note in the same record points to 1997. The college site gives 1997 for the parent Margalla Institute of Health Sciences and states no year for the dental college. 1 This page carries both figures without a preference.

The MIHS group runs three colleges. The site dates the physiotherapy college in Islamabad to 1997, and the dentistry college keeps its own identity in Rawalpindi. 1

Margalla General Hospital opened in 1999 as a welfare hospital at Pir Wadhai and serves a low-income community. 2 Margalla Dental Hospital stands on Quaid-e-Azam Avenue at Gulrez-3 and keeps more than 100 dental chairs across seven clinical departments. 2

MIHS publishes news from its campuses. In July 2026 the site reported that its orthodontic residents qualified as FCPS specialists in Islamabad. 1 The BDS programme works to PMDC standards and the curriculum set by UHS. 13

What the merit trend shows

The dataset records Margalla BDS self-finance aggregates of 80.10% for 2024 and 83.20% for 2025. Two sessions stand on this page, so read the rise as a two-year move rather than a long trend.

Both figures follow the UHS formula: 50% MDCAT, 40% HSSC and 10% SSC. 4 UHS rounds the final aggregate up to four decimal places. 4

Read the scale before you compare years. The MDCAT mark scale moved from 210 marks to 200 marks and then to 180 marks across recent sessions. One percentage point is not one raw mark in every row.

Admission process (BDS via UHS)

Margalla admits through the UHS private-sector process for Punjab. The steps below follow the UHS private admission notice for 2025-26 and the college admission page. 43

  1. Check eligibility: at least 60% in HSSC Pre-Medical or an IBCC-equivalent qualification, and at least 50% in MDCAT for BDS. 3
  2. MDCAT of 2023, 2024 or 2025 counts for the 2025-26 session. 4
  3. Register on the UHS BDS portal with your name, guardian name, email and CNIC or passport number. 4
  4. Select your seat category, then enter personal, domicile, SSC, HSSC and MDCAT records. 4
  5. Add every college you want in order of preference. Margalla must appear in that list. 4
  6. Upload scanned SSC and HSSC result cards, domicile, CNIC or B-Form and a guardian CNIC. The UHS portal holds each file at or below 1 MB. 4
  7. Pay the Rs. 2,000 application fee through a Bank of Punjab or National Bank challan, or the 1Bill service. Upload the receipt after payment. 4
  8. Submit the application and follow the merit lists on the UHS website. 5
  9. A selected candidate pays Rs. 600,000 to the UHS account within three working days. The candidate then pays the balance to the college. 4

Teaching hospitals

Two hospitals carry the clinical teaching. Margalla General Hospital opened in 1999 at Pir Wadhai as a welfare hospital. 2 Margalla Dental Hospital works on Quaid-e-Azam Avenue at Gulrez-3 with seven clinical departments and more than 100 dental chairs. 2

The dataset records 120 beds at the attached teaching hospital, and our facility record names the Margalla General and Dental Hospital.

BDS students take clinical hours in the dental hospital under supervision. Oral surgery theatres on the college campus add procedure training, as recorded in our dataset.

Campus and facilities

The college works from Quaid-e-Azam Avenue at Gulrez Phase III in Rawalpindi. 1 Our facilities record lists the Margalla General and Dental Hospital, the Gulrez campus, oral surgery theatres, student residencies and a medical library.

The site keeps a library page, a fee structure page, a downloads page for prospectus forms and contact persons for applicants. 1 Students reach all of them from the college home page. 1

Rawalpindi sits next to Islamabad, so students reach hospitals, libraries and city transport on short trips. Student residencies stand with the academic block in the facilities record.

Recognition

PMDC lists Margalla College of Dentistry among the private dental colleges of Punjab with 75 seats. 7 The college site states that its BDS degree has PM&DC recognition and UHS affiliation. 1

Our recognition record also holds a WHO World Directory listing, ECFMG eligibility and CPSP accreditation. UHS holds the admission process and posts all merit lists on its own website. 46

Student life

Students live in the student residencies recorded on the campus, and the dental block, library and hospital share one location. 1 The admission rules of the college state no quotas by sex, religion, race, colour, creed or domicile. 3

Rawalpindi and Islamabad together offer sports grounds, bookshops and cultural events within reach of the campus. MIHS posts campus news, including result announcements, on its site. 1

Common questions

Does Margalla offer MBBS?

No. The college runs the BDS programme only, and the dataset records one programme here. Apply on the UHS private-sector BDS portal and add Margalla in your preference list. Upload your documents and pay the Rs. 2,000 processing fee before the deadline. 4

What marks do I need for BDS?

You need at least 60% in HSSC Pre-Medical. The college states that figure as 660 out of 1100 marks. You also need at least 50% in MDCAT, stated as 100 out of 200 marks. MDCAT of 2023, 2024 or 2025 counts for the session. 34

How does UHS calculate the aggregate?

UHS takes 50% of MDCAT marks, 40% of HSSC marks and 10% of SSC marks, then rounds the total up to four decimal places. The dataset records the BDS self-finance aggregate at 83.20% for 2025 and at 80.10% for 2024. 4

What fee does a selected candidate pay?

The application fee is Rs. 2,000. A selected candidate deposits Rs. 600,000 with UHS within three working days of the merit list, then pays the rest of the college fee directly. The recorded BDS fee is about Rs. 1.25 million a year and stays an estimate. 4

Which hospital takes the clinical training?

The Margalla Dental Hospital at Gulrez-3 carries most BDS clinical hours, with seven clinical departments and more than 100 dental chairs. Margalla General Hospital at Pir Wadhai opened in 1999 as a welfare hospital. Call the admissions office on 051-5974283 for queries. 23

MDCAT test score scales changed over time (210 in 2021, 200 in 2022, 180 from 2025). The MDCAT weightage in the aggregate formula (typically 50% MDCAT, 40% HSSC, 10% SSC) has stayed stable across cycles we cover. Closing merit numbers between cycles may not be directly comparable.
