What makes the NUMS paper different

NUMS does not keep one question count. The archive runs from 206 questions in 2018 to 138 in 2024, and no year matches its neighbour except 2014 and 2015, which both hold 197.

2019 is the only year with two rows: the cancelled paper and the reconduct. The cancelled paper holds 196 positions and the reconduct 194. Both stay because they are different papers.

NUMS is the only board on this site whose clock is 165 minutes. The 2025 and 2026 papers run 150 and 151 questions in 165 minutes; every earlier NUMS paper ran 210.

The 2026 paper has no Logical Reasoning positions. Its 151 questions are English 15, Biology 55, Chemistry 41 and Physics 40.

Three real questions from the 2026 paper

The answer key and the explanation a student sees after answering.

  1. Question 1, English, Formal and Lexical Aspect of Language, NUMS 2026
The antonym for the word clarity is:
    • Upright
    • Understanding
    • Vagueness (correct answer)
    • Clear

    Correct answer: C

The noun 'clarity' denotes lucidity and precision of expression; its precise antonym is 'vagueness', which describes an indistinct, imprecise, or ambiguous state.
  2. Question 2, Biology, Coordination and Control, NUMS 2026
What is the role of growth hormone after adolescence?
    • Promotes protein synthesis (correct answer)
    • Inhibits protein synthesis
    • Decreases amino acid uptake
    • Inhibits cell division

    Correct answer: A

Even after epiphyseal plate closure, growth hormone acts as an anabolic hormone that promotes amino acid uptake and stimulates protein synthesis throughout adult tissues.
  3. Question 3, Chemistry, Alkyl Halides, NUMS 2026
The reactivity order of alkyl halides is:
    • R–F > R–Cl >R–Br >R–I
    • R–Cl> R–Br >R–I >R–F
    • R–Br >R–I > R–F > R–Cl
    • R–I >R–Br> R–Cl> R–F (correct answer)

    Correct answer: D

Alkyl halide reactivity is governed by carbon-halogen bond energy, making alkyl iodides the most reactive: R–I > R–Br > R–Cl > R–F.

NUMS questions

Why is the NUMS paper 165 minutes?

The 2025 and 2026 papers in this archive are 150 and 151 questions in 165 minutes. Every earlier NUMS paper runs 210 minutes. The clock shown on each row is the clock the paper is served with.

Why does the NUMS question count change every year?

The paper has not used a fixed count. The archive runs from 206 questions in 2018 to 138 in 2024, and the table keeps each year as its own row instead of forcing one number onto all of them.

What is the 2019 NUMS cancelled paper?

The 2019 year holds two rows: the cancelled sitting and the reconduct. They are different papers, with 196 and 194 positions, so both are kept.
