PM&DC changed the admission rules. Did the merit formula change?
People are posting that PM&DC reduced the MDCAT weight this year. I also keep seeing new dates for when admissions close. What actually changed in the October notification?

The merit formula did not change. Merit is MDCAT 50%, HSSC 40%, Matric 10%, in public and private colleges alike, exactly as before. That part of the reporting was wrong.
What the Medical and Dental (Admissions, Curriculum and Conduct) Policy and Regulations 2026, notified on 12 October 2026, did change:
- The admission year now has a hard end. Public medical colleges by 31 December 2026, private medical colleges by 31 January 2027, public dental colleges by 15 February 2027, private dental colleges by 28 February 2027, unless PM&DC says otherwise.
- BDS is a separate application. A candidate who applied only for MBBS is not entitled to a dental seat.
- Colleges that over-admit are punished. 100% of the actual annual fee for each excess student for every year of the programme, and twice that number of seats cut next session.
- A late merit or admission list costs the college Rs 500,000 plus Rs 50,000 for each further day.
Eligibility is unchanged in substance: a passed MDCAT at 55% for MBBS and 50% for BDS, and 60% or more in HSSC with Biology and Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics.
These apply to the 2026-27 session and later, and they replaced the 2025 regulations. The regulations news entry quotes each change with its source, and the merit list page shows the deadlines against what each body has published.
