How admission works in Sindh
MBBS and BDS admissions in Sindh run under the Government of Sindh prospectus 2025-26. The prospectus covers SMBBMU, DUHS, JSMU, LUMHS, PUMHSW, KMU/KMDC, GMC Gambat, KMC Khairpur and SMBBMC Lyari. The entry test is MDCAT 2025 conducted by IBA Sukkur through SIBA Testing Services. Candidates need at least 55% in it for MBBS or 50% for BDS. Eligibility needs 60% (660/1100) in HSSC Pre-Medical or an unadjusted 60% IBCC equivalence, and merit is SSC 10% + HSSC 40% + MDCAT 50%. Applications go to the processing university that covers the candidate's district, and most seats require a Sindh PRC plus domicile of the tagged district.

- 7Submit the completed form and documents through Leopard Courier Service to the processing university.
- 8Track the merit lists on the processing university's portal and confirm your seat within three working days of the offer.
Quota system
General merit, merit-cum-choice, University Development Programs, UEAP and disabled seats require permanent residence in the tagged district of Sindh. They also need the father's or mother's PRC of Sindh. A candidate found holding PRC or domicile of more than one district or province in Pakistan is disqualified. Fee structures differ by category: district-merit seats at SMBBMU carry an admission charge of PKR 25,000 and annual tuition of PKR 52,800. UEAP local and funded scholars pay PKR 715,000 tuition plus 3% SST and UEAP overseas students pay US$10,500 tuition plus admission in US dollars. A 3% service tax applies to gross annual fees above PKR 500,000 under Government of Sindh notification SRB-COM-III/UNIT-16A/EDUCATION/2024-25/437560 dated 07-08-2024. Open-merit tuition rises 10% each year. Late payment attracts surcharges of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10% across four months before cancellation.

SIBA Testing Services conducts the Sindh MDCAT under a Sindh High Court judgment of 15 Nov 2024. The paper is set on the PMDC syllabus in coordination with the Health Department, Government of Sindh and PMDC.
Selected candidates must respond to an offer within three working days. A hostel is billed at PKR 20,000 per year alongside a PMDC registration charge of PKR 7,000.

Medical education in Sindh
Sindh's medical teaching sits in Karachi, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Larkana, Sukkur and Nawabshah, plus interior districts that gained colleges in the 1970s and 2000s. LUMHS is described in the government prospectus as the oldest medical institution in the region, founded in 1881. JSMU, formed in 2012, runs admissions for the Sindh Medical College stream in Karachi, while DUHS processes Karachi applications on the 2025-26 portal. LUMHS, SMBBMU and PUMHSW split the interior districts between them, and PUMHSW takes only female applicants. The 2025-26 prospectus lists SMBBMU, DUHS, JSMU, LUMHS, PUMHSW, KMU and KMDC, GMC Gambat, KMC Khairpur and SMBBMC Lyari under one merit formula.
LUMHS is the oldest medical institution in the region, founded in 1881. The medical school moved to Karachi on 10 Dec 1945 and was renamed Dow Medical College. Liaquat Medical College started at Hyderabad in 1951 before moving to Jamshoro in 1963.
Jinnah Sindh Medical University was established on 1 June 2012 with Sindh Medical College as its first constituent college.
Dow University of Health Sciences was established in 2003 and Dow Dental College in 2012.
Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College Sukkur was established on 2 Sep 2003.
Peoples Medical College Nawabshah started in April 1974. Peoples University of Health Sciences for Women was created by Sindh Act 2009 dated 21-12-2009 with assent on 10-11-2010.
The Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences was opened on 15 Nov 2014.
