The Sindh Assembly passed the university bill on 12 September 2008, and the act took assent and notification on 18 October 2008. 1 President Asif Ali Zardari held the groundbreaking on 30 December 2009. 1 Wikipedia records the university start on 9 July 2009, with Professor Dr. Sikandar Ali Sheikh as the first Vice Chancellor. 65

What the merit trend shows

Our dataset records SMBBMU MBBS open-merit aggregates of 80.10% for 2022, 81.55% for 2023, 79.40% for 2024 and 85.60% for 2025.

Every aggregate follows the Sindh formula: 50% MDCAT, 40% HSSC and 10% SSC. 1 The MDCAT scale moved from 210 marks to 200 marks and then to 180 marks across these years. 8 One percentage point is not one raw mark in every row.

The last column moves up 6.2 points from 2024 to 2025. Read the 2025 row with care, because the test and the syllabus changed with the session. Read the four rows as a range of about six points, not as one cut-off.
