AJK and GB candidates: how do admissions work for us?

Asked by StudentStaff21 October 2026New1 answerAnswered

I am domiciled in Gilgit-Baltistan. My options feel confusing: KIU, federal quota, open merit in other provinces? What is the actual map?

Here is the map for AJK and GB candidates:

    • AJK public colleges (AJK Medical College Muzaffarabad and others) admit through the UHS pool, and roughly half the seats at each AJK public medical college are reserved for AJK-domiciled candidates.
    • GB has one PM&DC-recognized public college, the KIU Faculty of Medicine in Gilgit (about 50 MBBS seats). GB candidates also hold a reserved quota at FJMU and other federal institutions.
    • Open merit elsewhere: you can also compete in other provinces through their open-merit pools, though the provincial pool sizes make this harder.
    • MDCAT 2026 for your region was administered by SZABMU (ICT, AJK, GB, and the Riyadh international centre together).

The province table in the admissions guide breaks down every admitting body, and the KIU page has the college details.
