Overview
Federal Medical and Dental College (FMDC) is a public medical college in sector G-8/4 of Islamabad. Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) runs its MBBS and BDS admissions through one portal. Applicants register once and apply to each programme separately. 4511
Our record gives the college 100 MBBS seats and 50 BDS seats. It also records a fee of Rs. 24,000 for each programme for the session. The SZABMU seat table lists the same 100 MBBS seats for Federal Medical College. 41
The 100 MBBS seats split across provincial and reserved quotas. Open merit holds 6 seats, ICT holds 25 and Punjab holds 29. The rest cover both Sindh regions, KPK, Balochistan, GB, FATA, AJK, Federal Government employees and disabled candidates. 4 The 50 BDS seats follow the same quota heads, with open merit holding 3. 5
Students learn clinical medicine at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and at Federal General Hospital. 2 Our record dates the college to 2012, and Wikipedia also gives 2012 as the founding year. 8 Our record calls FMDC the only public medical college in the federal capital.

History and heritage
Our record dates FMDC to 2012 and names it as a federal government college in the capital. Wikipedia records the founding in 2012 and lists the college as a constituent of SZABMU. 8 Our record gives the MBBS course five years and the BDS course four years.
The college history page ties its establishment to an Act of Parliament passed on 21 March 2013. 2 SZABMU records the same Act date as its own founding. 4 The first vice-chancellor took office on 7 January 2014. 2 That appointment followed the recommendations of a search committee. 2
SZABMU lists Federal Medical College as a constituent institution with 100 MBBS seats. 7 The university places the 50 BDS seats at its own School of Dentistry. 7 The merit notice places that school in sector G-8/3, and both institutions answer to one administration. 6
PIMS is the main clinical campus. The federal government established PIMS in 1985, and Quaid-e-Azam Postgraduate Medical College joined it on 1 February 1989. 9 The complex grew into 22 specialist centres. 9 PIMS affiliates with SZABMU for medical training. 9 The complex therefore pairs specialist care with postgraduate training. 9
The PIMS record breaks into three units. A 592-bed Islamabad Hospital anchors the complex, with a 230-bed children's hospital and a 125-bed maternal and child health centre beside it. 9 Federal General Hospital serves as the second teaching site of the college. 2
FMDC runs MBBS through its basic science departments. Wikipedia records seven basic-science departments at the college. 8 The college site lists departments of pharmacology, physiology and general studies. 1 Research runs through the Journal of Federal Medical College, whose first-issue inauguration press release carries the date 4 December 2024. 2 The college page lists Shemaila Saleem as its principal. 2
SZABMU publishes FMDC merit lists quota by quota. The provisional list for session 2025-26 invited complaints by registered email with documentary proof until 4:00 PM on 28 November 2025. 6 By 27 March 2026 the university published its 34th MBBS list for the college, alongside the 41st BDS list for the School of Dentistry. 10

What the merit trend shows
Our record gives the FMDC MBBS open-merit closing aggregate at 86.1% for 2022 and 87.45% for 2023. It then moves to 94.5% for 2024 and 96.76% for 2025. The four rows show a steady climb, with the sharpest jump between 2023 and 2024. The medical band therefore moves faster than the dental band across the four rows.
BDS sits on a lower band. Its closing aggregate reads 82.4% for 2022, 83.65% for 2023, and 84.55% for both 2024 and 2025. The dental band holds steady after 2024 while the medical band keeps rising.
SZABMU builds the aggregate from 50% MDCAT, 40% HSSC and 10% SSC. 45 The MDCAT mark scale moved from 210 to 200 and then to 180 across these years. Compare sessions with care, because the same percentage does not mean the same raw score in every row. The university also publishes quota-wise lists, so each quota closes at its own figure. 6
Admission process (MBBS and BDS via SZABMU)
SZABMU conducts FMDC admissions under the PM&DC Medical and Dental Undergraduate Education (Admissions, Curriculum and Conduct) Policy and Regulations 2025. 4 The university publishes eligibility, the aggregate formula and document rules on its programme pages. The steps below follow those pages and the published application guide. 4511
- Check eligibility: at least 60% in HSSC Pre-Medical and at least 55% in MDCAT for MBBS. 4
- The BDS route asks for the same 60% in HSSC and at least 50% in MDCAT. 5
- Register a new SZABMU account with your CNIC or passport and your email address. 11
- Complete the online form with personal, MDCAT and academic details, then upload scans. 11
- Apply to the medical and dental programmes separately. Each carries its own Rs. 3,000 challan. 11
- Print the challan, deposit it at a Habib Bank branch and upload the paid receipt. 11
- Keep every scanned document at or below 512 KB in JPEG, JPG or PNG. 4
- Attach quota documents when you claim a reserved seat. Uploads carry applicant responsibility. 4
- Track the provisional merit list and send complaints by registered email before the cutoff. 6
Teaching hospitals and clinical training
FMDC names PIMS and Federal General Hospital as its teaching hospitals. 2 Our record gives the PIMS capacity at 1,200 beds. The Wikipedia record splits that capacity into three components, which run below the figure on our record. 9 The college page calls PIMS the largest tertiary care facility in the capital. 2
PIMS opened in 1985 and grew into a complex of 22 specialist centres. 9 The Islamabad Hospital holds 592 beds. The children's hospital holds 230 beds, and the maternal and child health centre holds 125 beds. 9 PIMS affiliates with SZABMU, which degrees FMDC students. 9 The three units therefore spread the complex across general and specialty care.
Clinical years carry students into wards, specialty units and the emergency department. Students meet patients under supervision and build case exposure across medicine, surgery and paediatrics. The two-hospital arrangement spreads rotations across federal and general settings. 2 Both sites therefore carry the supervised ward work.
Federal General Hospital provides the second clinical site. 2 It sits inside Islamabad, so students move between campus and ward without leaving the city. The site therefore keeps both clinical years inside the capital.
Campus and facilities
The college sits at Al-Farabi Center, Hanna Road, sector G-8/4, Islamabad. 3 Its admissions page embeds a Google Maps listing for the campus. 1 The college office keeps weekday hours from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. 3
Our campus record lists the PIMS teaching-hospital complex, collaboration with the National Institute of Health, a digital medical library and an auditorium. The library supports pre-clinical study before the ward years begin. The college page lists six reasons to choose it, and expert faculty heads that list. 2
The hostel flag in our record is set to no, so check hostel options with the college office before you apply. Students in that position arrange private rental housing in Islamabad. The adjoining G sectors therefore carry most student rentals.
Academic units on the site include pharmacology, physiology and general studies. 1 The map on the admissions page marks the campus inside sector G-8/4. 1
Recognition and accreditation
Our record marks the programmes as PMDC recognised and CPSP accredited. It also lists them in the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools and marks them ECFMG eligible. Our record also marks the college recognition status as active for the current session.
Wikipedia records PMDC recognition and places the college in the International Medical Education Directory and the WHO directory. 8 SZABMU runs its admission cycle under the PM&DC 2025 admission policy, which governs the degree nationally. 4 The same policy sets the eligibility rules quoted on both programme pages. 45 The college site also lists professional certifications among its published strengths. 2
Student life
The campus occupies sector G-8/4 in Islamabad, close to hospitals, libraries and federal offices. The college office answers visitors on weekdays between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. 3 The location cuts travel time for students who live in the adjoining sectors. The admissions page carries the campus map for visiting students. 1
Our record marks no college hostel, so students arrange their own housing in the city. Shared rentals in G-6, G-7 and G-8 form the usual route for out-of-city students.
The college describes its training as patient-centred, evidence-based and learner-focused from year one. 2 Quota-based admissions bring classmates from every province and territory. 4 A batch therefore mixes students from big-city schools and small-town schools. The college lists four values on its site: excellence, compassion, innovation and integrity. 2

Common questions
How do I apply to FMDC?
Apply through the SZABMU portal rather than to the college directly. Register an account, complete the form, print each programme challan and upload the paid receipt. SZABMU runs one portal for both MBBS and BDS, and it publishes the deadline each cycle. Keep scans below 512 KB. The challan carries its own Rs. 3,000 charge for each programme. 411
How many MBBS seats does FMDC offer?
Our record gives 100 MBBS seats, and the SZABMU seat table lists the same figure. The seats split across open merit, ICT, Punjab, both Sindh regions, KPK, Balochistan, GB, FATA, AJK, Federal Government employees and disabled candidates. Open merit holds 6 seats. 4
What marks do I need?
SZABMU asks for at least 60% in HSSC Pre-Medical or an equivalent qualification. MBBS needs at least 55% in MDCAT and BDS needs at least 50%. The percentages follow the PM&DC 2025 admission policy that governs every medical college in the country. The dental page carries the same HSSC minimum for BDS applicants. 45
How is the aggregate calculated?
SZABMU weights MDCAT at 50%, HSSC at 40% and SSC at 10%. The university publishes the same formula on its MBBS and BDS pages, and it ranks each quota separately. Every quota therefore closes at its own figure for the session. Check the current SZABMU prospectus for the rules of your session. 456
