History and heritage

AMC opened in 1977 as a residential college under Quaid-i-Azam University. 12 The college worked from the university setting in its early years, and its cadet system took shape then. 2 The history page records that the MBBS degree ran through Quaid-i-Azam University in that period. 2

The first batch of 100 MBBS students graduated in 1981. 2 The British General Medical Council recognised the degree in the same year. 2 The BDS programme also started in 1981. 2 That first batch therefore left the college with a recognised MBBS degree. 2

The college moved under NUST in 1998. 2 It started postgraduate training in 2001 with MPhil, PhD and FCPS routes. 2 Those routes opened research posts inside the college. The home page lists those three postgraduate degrees among its current awards. 1

NUMS took the college as a constituent institution in 2016. 2 NUMS now runs the entry test and the centralized merit lists for its colleges. 67 The admission hub on the NUMS site carries the active MBBS and BDS cycles. 47 The admission criteria page carries the NUMS weightage that applicants follow. 3 The entry test therefore gates every AMC seat from the NUMS era onward. 6

AMC admits two cadet categories. NUMS Cadets compete on the NUMS entry test, while Medical Cadets follow a separate Army recruitment route. 3 Both categories train inside the same college buildings.

CMH Rawalpindi anchors the clinical side. The hospital dates from 1859, and new outpatient, emergency and diagnostic buildings opened in 2013. 8 The combined CMH and Military Hospital capacity then reached 2,500 beds. 8 The complex handles about 6,000 patients per day. 8 The 2013 expansion therefore reshaped the clinical base for later batches. 8

The college groups its teaching into basic sciences, clinical sciences and dental sciences. 1 Basic sciences cover anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, pathology, forensic medicine and community medicine. 1 Clinical sciences cover surgery, medicine, ENT, ophthalmology, gynaecology and paediatrics. 1

What the merit trend shows

Our record gives the AMC MBBS open-merit closing aggregate at 85.55% for 2022 and 87% for 2023. It then rises to 93.8% for 2024 and 95.4% for 2025. The steepest move lands between 2023 and 2024.

BDS follows the same climb. Its closing aggregate reads 82% for 2022, 83.2% for 2023, 91.5% for 2024 and 93.8% for 2025. Both programmes clear 90% in the last two rows on our record. The BDS row therefore tracks the medical row across all four sessions.

AMC weights the NUMS entry test at 50%, FSc at 40% and SSC at 10%. 3 The test pass mark sits at 55% for MBBS and 45% for BDS. 3 The MDCAT mark scale moved from 210 to 200 and then to 180 across these years. Compare sessions with care, because the same percentage does not mean the same raw score in every row.

Admission process (via NUMS)

NUMS acts as the admitting university for AMC. It conducts the NUMS MDCAT entry test for session 2026-27 at its constituent, affiliated and military colleges, and AMC appears on that list. 67 The criteria page prints the aggregate weights and the pass marks for each programme. 3 The steps below follow the NUMS notice and the college criteria page.

  1. Pick your category: NUMS Cadets follow the open NUMS route, Medical Cadets the Army route. 3
  2. NUMS Cadets need 60% in FSc and a pass in the NUMS entry test. 3
  3. The entry test pass mark is 55% for MBBS and 45% for BDS. 3
  4. Medical Cadets sit the NUMS test, an Army recruitment-centre test and a medical exam. 3
  5. Register for NUMS MDCAT 2026 between 18 May and 22 June 2026. 6
  6. Pay Rs. 7,500 for the test, or Rs. 8,500 in the late window. 6
  7. Upload images below 2 MB, add personal details and list two exam cities. 6
  8. Sit the test on Sunday, 13 September 2026 at your allotted centre. 6
  9. Follow the NUMS centralized merit lists for private affiliated and military colleges. 7

Teaching hospitals and clinical training

AMC names CMH Rawalpindi as its teaching hospital. 1 Our record breaks the clinical capacity into 1,200 CMH beds and 1,000 Military Hospital beds. Our record also names the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology in the network. The home page names CMH Rawalpindi as the affiliated teaching hospital of the college. 1

Wikipedia gives CMH a 1,000-bed figure and dates the hospital to 1859. 8 Its 2013 expansion lifted combined CMH and Military Hospital capacity to 2,500 beds. 8 The hospital complex therefore sits above the capacity figure on our record. The expansion covered new outpatient, emergency and diagnostic buildings. 8

The complex handles about 6,000 patients per day. 8 AMC students train clinically inside these wards. 8 The load gives students exposure across medicine, surgery and emergency care during the clinical years. Students therefore meet a wide case mix from the first ward rotation.

Students meet patients under supervision across the specialty units. The military network adds pathology and cardiology institutes to the rotation list. 1 The network therefore mixes ward work with institute postings during the clinical years.

Common questions

How do I apply to AMC?

You apply through NUMS, not through the college. Register for NUMS MDCAT 2026, pay the fee, upload your images and list two exam cities. NUMS then runs the centralized merit lists for its military colleges and publishes them on its admission hub. 67

What marks do I need?

NUMS asks for 60% in FSc. The entry test pass mark sits at 55% for MBBS and 45% for BDS. Medical Cadets also clear an Army recruitment-centre test and a medical examination before selection. The criteria page carries both pass marks for the session. 3

How is the aggregate calculated?

AMC weights the NUMS entry test at 50%, HSSC or FSc at 40% and SSC at 10%. The same formula applies to both programmes, and NUMS ranks every applicant on that aggregate. Check the current NUMS prospectus for your session. 3

What does AMC charge?

Our record marks the fee as unpublished. The college fee page lists Rs. 1,210,000 per year on open merit for session 2025/26, which totals Rs. 6,050,000 over the MBBS course. BDS totals Rs. 4,840,000 on the same page. The prior session charged Rs. 1,100,000 per year. 4

Does AMC offer hostels?

Yes. AMC runs eight residential hostels for eight cadet companies. Six hostels serve male cadets and two serve female cadets. Each block holds more than 100 rooms, and a mess in each block serves 150 cadets. The home page repeats the eight-hostel, two-female and six-male split. 15
