Senate sub-committee recommends MDCAT twice a year
A sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services has recommended that MDCAT be conducted twice a year to give candidates additional attempts.
MDCAT twice a year proposal
The Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination on 21 July 2026 recommended that the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) be conducted twice a year.
The proposal would, if adopted, give candidates a second attempt within the same academic cycle and reduce the all-or-nothing pressure of a single annual sitting. The recommendation has been forwarded to PM&DC for review and implementation; it is not yet policy.
What this means for the 2026 cycle
- The 2026 MDCAT remains a single national sitting on 20 September 2026.
- Any change to twice-a-year conduct would first apply to the 2027 cycle, after PM&DC publishes a revised syllabus and a separate registration and result window.
