President assents to PMDC Act 2022, re-establishing PM&DC
The PMDC Bill 2022 received presidential assent on 12 January 2023, formally re-establishing the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and ending the PMC era.
PMDC Act 2022 assented
The President of Pakistan assented to the PMDC Act 2022 on 12 January 2023, formally re-establishing the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) and ending the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) era that had begun in 2019.
The Act gave PM&DC the regulatory authority to conduct MDCAT centrally and to oversee medical and dental college admissions across Pakistan. The first national MDCAT under the new Act was held on 10 September 2023.
What this changed
- MDCAT is once again a single national test, with provincial admitting universities administering centres under PM&DC oversight.
- PM&DC publishes the centralised result; provinces publish their own merit lists.
- The 180 MCQ format (Bio 81, Chem 45, Phys 36, English 9, LR 9) is the format that has been in force since 2025.
