Repeating for MDCAT 2027. What should I actually change?

Asked by StudentStaff12 October 2026New1 answerAnswered

Scored 121/180 in 2026 (needed 99 for BDS eligibility, got in nowhere on merit). My weak areas were Physics numericals and I ran out of time in the last 30 minutes. Do I just do the same thing harder?

No. Doing the same thing harder usually produces the same score with more burnout. Three changes that target your specific gaps:

    1. Physics numericals: your problem is likely retrieval speed, not understanding. Spaced repetition with a target retention around 0.9 on formulas and standard setups beats re-reading derivations. Review the spaced repetition system and set the scheduler up once.
    2. The last-30-minutes problem: that is pacing, and only timed full mocks fix pacing. Do at least six full 180-question mocks before the 2027 test, each reviewed question by question. Track time-per-section, not just score.
    3. Check your score validity: your 2026 score is valid for the 2026, 2027, and 2028 cycles. Depending on your target colleges, you may already hold a usable BDS-eligible score while you retake for MBBS. That changes your risk calculation completely.

The repeater playbook covers second-attempt planning in detail, including the psychology, which is half of it.
