How exactly is the MDCAT aggregate calculated?
Asked by StudentStaff14 October 2026New1 answerAnswered
I keep seeing different formulas online. Some say Matric 10%, some say it changed. What is the actual official formula, and can someone show a worked example with real numbers?

The official aggregate formula for 2026 admissions is:
Worked example:
- Matric: 1050/1100 → (1050 ÷ 1100) × 10 = 9.545
- FSc Pre-Medical: 1020/1100 → (1020 ÷ 1100) × 40 = 37.091
- MDCAT: 162/180 → (162 ÷ 180) × 50 = 45.000
- Total aggregate: 91.636%
Things people get wrong:
- The MDCAT component is out of 180, not 200. Dividing by 200 is an old error that still circulates.
- FSc is unadjusted marks; A-Level and IB students go through IBCC equivalence first.
- Each province applies the same formula to its own applicant pool, so the same aggregate means different merit positions in different provinces.
Skip the arithmetic entirely with the aggregate calculator, which also runs the reverse direction (what MDCAT score a target aggregate needs).
