Academy or self-study for MDCAT 2027? Honest takes only.
Asked by StudentStaff11 October 2026New1 answerAnswered
Everyone in my class is joining an academy for 30-80k. My cousin self-studied and scored 168. I cannot tell what is marketing and what is real. What does the evidence actually say?

Honest version, including the uncomfortable parts:
- The 2027 timing change is a direct blow to the 2-3 month academy model. The Health Minister's stated goal was to end the post-FSc cram industry. If MDCAT sits days after FSc results, a summer academy cannot fix twelve months of accumulated gaps.
- What academies actually sell is structure: a schedule, a room, and peers. If you cannot self-generate structure, that is a real need, and platforms with daily goals, scheduled reviews, and leaderboards exist to replace it at a fraction of the price.
- What actually predicts MDCAT scores in the evidence we can see: question volume with reviewed mistakes, spaced repetition, and full-length timed mocks under exam conditions. None of these require an academy; all of them require consistency.
- The scam warning is not theoretical. Fake leaked papers circulated in 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026, and the FIA arrested a gang extorting families with score guarantees. No one can guarantee marks. Walk away from anyone who says otherwise.
