MDCAT 2027: what we know, what we verify, and what to do about it
The government says MDCAT 2027 will be held within days of the FSc results. No date, syllabus change, or eligibility change has been announced yet. Here is the verified picture for the 2027 cycle.
The One Announced Fact That Changes 2027
The Federal Health Minister announced a new MDCAT schedule starting with the 2027 cycle: the test will be held within days of the FSc results, rather than months after them. The stated purpose is to close the long gap that coaching academies monetize, and to save families the cost of a post-FSc cram session.
That single policy moves MDCAT preparation into the FSc year itself. The practical consequence: a 2027 candidate who starts serious preparation late, the way the old calendar allowed, will be preparing while their board exams are in progress.
What Is Confirmed for 2027
- The timing policy: MDCAT 2027 sits within days of the FSc results (Ministry statement, April 2026).
- The format: 180 MCQs, 180 marks, 180 minutes. No 2027 format change has been announced.
- Score validity: an MDCAT score is valid for three admission cycles, so a 2026 score already covers the 2027 and 2028 admissions.
What Is Not Announced (As of 27 September 2026)
- The 2027 test date. The window follows the FSc results, which land Aug-Sep; we will publish the date the day PMDC announces it.
- Any syllabus change. The MDCAT 2025 uniform curriculum remains the reference until PMDC says otherwise.
- Any eligibility-threshold change. Conflicting reports about the FSc eligibility percentage remain unconfirmed; do not plan around either version until PMDC publishes.
- A Senate sub-committee has recommended holding MDCAT twice a year. That is a recommendation, not a decision.
What a 2027 Candidate Should Actually Do
- Anchor to FSc, not to a test date. Your FSc marks are 40% of your aggregate; MDCAT is 50%. The 2027 calendar makes them the same season, so neither can be sacrificed to the other.
- Use spaced repetition from now, not from a crash-course month. The twelve-month runway is exactly what FSRS scheduling is built for; a topic learned in December and reviewed on schedule beats a topic crammed in August and forgotten mid-paper.
- Track the policy, not the rumours. Every policy claim in this article carries a source, and the news desk updates as PMDC publishes. Fake leaked papers circulated in 2023, 2024, 2025, and again in 2026; treat any "leak" as a scam by default.
- Benchmark early. Run your aggregate scenarios in the calculator and shortlist realistic colleges in the directory before counseling season compresses your decisions.
