Key takeaways
- The 2026 KMU row has 180 recovered questions and follows the national 180-question table.
- Older KPK papers may come from a different testing body. Use the newest complete KMU papers for current practice.
- Biology is 81 marks; Chemistry and Physics together carry 81 marks.
- Use complete papers for mocks and partial papers for 45-minute blocks.
- Check the KMU portal for deadlines, documents and centre instructions.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa candidates sit the same national paper shape as every other province. The administration is different. KMU is the admitting university, the older papers came from a different testing body, and the provincial textbook list is not the same as Punjab's. Those differences matter, but they do not change the mark distribution.
The shape of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa paper
The paper has 180 questions and 180 minutes. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Logical Reasoning appear in the national proportions. KMU publishes the local registration arrangements, the centre list and the admission schedule.
The paper is not an ETEA test any more. ETEA held the KPK entry test in earlier years, and some older KPK papers in our archive come from a different testing body. KMU is the admitting university today. A student who practises only ETEA-era papers is practising a different paper, even if some topics overlap. The centre and reporting time are printed on the admit card. Check them in the week before the test.
What our KMU archive records
Our archive covers six boards: UHS, DUHS, KMU, NUMS, Balochistan and Federal. The 2026 KMU row holds 180 recovered questions. A recovered question matched a question in our bank, so the count shows how complete the paper is. The 2026 row is complete at 180.
Some older KMU rows are partial. A partial paper is useful for a subject block, not for a timed mock. The board page prints the recovered count on each row. Open it from papers and check the count before you plan a full sitting. A complete row is the only one that can give you a comparable score. If you mix a partial paper with questions from another board, label the set as mixed and do not compare the score with a full mock. Across the six 2026 rows, the recovered count runs from 37 for UHS to 180 for DUHS, Federal and KMU. Every 2026 paper is free; the pre-2026 archive is part of the MDCAT Pass.
The 2026 paper in numbers
The split is 81 Biology, 45 Chemistry, 36 Physics, 9 English and 9 Logical Reasoning. Biology is 45% of the paper. Chemistry is 25%. Physics is 20%. English and Logical Reasoning are 5% each.
One minute per question is the average. Some Biology questions take twenty seconds. Some Physics numericals take three minutes. The average is not a rule for every question. It is a budget. If you spend two minutes on a one-mark Biology fact, you have taken time from a question you could have answered.
Why older KPK papers are not KMU papers
The testing body and the paper format have changed more than once. ETEA held the KPK entry test in earlier years. Some older papers in the archive are from that period; some are national papers. KMU is the admitting university today.
The practical result is a gap in the archive. An older ETEA paper is not a KMU paper. A national paper is not a KMU paper either. Use the newest complete papers for the closest style, and older papers for subject practice only.
Do not assume that a topic which appeared in an ETEA paper is a KPK priority today. The paper-setting panel and the syllabus can change. The national table is the reliable structure.
Subject priorities for KPK candidates
Start with Biology because it carries the most marks. Then protect Chemistry and Physics, which together carry 81 marks. Do not leave English and Logical Reasoning until the last week. They are 18 marks and they reward short, regular practice.
Use the textbook your provincial board prescribes. Our notes are built from Punjab, Sindh and Federal books. For a KPK topic that is not covered, the app falls back to the Federal book. That is a study aid, not a substitute for your own textbook. Check the topic against the KMU prospectus and your board's book list.
If you studied in a Punjabi-medium school or used Punjab notes, check the terminology. The concepts are the same, but the wording in a question can follow the provincial book. A student who has only seen one phrasing can misread a familiar idea. A short English set three times a week is enough to keep the formats familiar. Do not save the section for the last ten minutes of a mock, when you are least able to read carefully.
Three mistakes that cost marks
The first is treating an ETEA paper as a current KMU paper. The format changed. The older paper can teach a topic, but it cannot teach the current timing or the current question style.
The second is ignoring English and Logical Reasoning. These sections are short, and many students answer them in the last ten minutes. That is when reading speed is lowest. Practise them first once a week, then in the order you will use in the exam.
The third is using a partial paper as a mock. If a paper has 120 recovered questions, your score is not comparable to a 180-question score. Use it for a 45-minute block, or add questions from another paper and label the set as mixed.
A fourth mistake matters: not reading the KMU portal. The registration window, the document list and the centre instructions live there. A parent or teacher can check the portal, but the candidate must know the deadlines.
Building a practice set from partial papers
Take two complete papers for full mocks. Take four partial papers and turn each into a 45-question subject block. Answer the sets on practice so the review is recorded. Take one day each week for the error log.
A useful week looks like this. Monday: 45 Biology questions. Tuesday: review the errors and read the linked notes. Wednesday: 30 Chemistry and 15 Physics questions. Thursday: 18 English and Logical Reasoning questions, timed at 18 minutes. Friday: review the week's errors. Saturday: a full paper every second week. Sunday: rest or a light review.
Do not count the number of questions you answer. Count the number of errors you can explain. A student who answers 300 questions and reviews none is less prepared than a student who answers 120 and reviews every mistake.
A four-week countdown for KMU candidates
Week one: sit one complete paper under exam conditions. Mark it. Sort every error into knowledge, reading, timing or guesswork. Do not start new topics until you have the list.
Week two: repair the two weakest subjects. Use 30-question sets and the notes. Keep one short English and Logical Reasoning set every other day.
Week three: sit a second complete paper. Compare the error pattern with week one. If timing is still the problem, practise leaving questions earlier. If knowledge is the problem, cut the number of new questions and reread the notes.
Week four: one full paper at the start of the week, then light revision. Confirm the centre, the documents and the transport. Sleep at a regular hour. Do not add a new textbook in the last seven days. If a full paper is not available, use a complete paper from another board. The subject table is the same, and the timing lesson transfers. Keep the same start time for each mock. The exam strategy hub has a week-by-week template.
Common questions
Is the KMU paper the same as the old ETEA paper?
No. ETEA held the KPK entry test in earlier years. KMU is the admitting university today. Use ETEA papers for topic practice, not for current timing.
How many questions were recovered from the 2026 KMU paper?
The 2026 KMU row holds 180 recovered questions. That is a complete paper. Older rows may be partial, and each row shows its recovered count.
Does KPK use a different syllabus?
The national format and subject split apply. The provincial textbook list can differ. Check the KMU prospectus and the textbook your board prescribes. Our notes fall back to the Federal book where a KPK text is not covered.
Can I use Punjab papers for KMU practice?
Yes, for timing and subject mix. The table is national. Check the terminology and topic coverage against your provincial textbook, and use KMU papers for the closest style.
